History of the Firm
Mohan, Alewelt, Prillaman, and Adami established its roots in Springfield Illinois in 1953, when James T. Mohan came to the city after serving in the Air Force during the Korean War in the Judge Advocate’s office. He joined the firm of Stevens, Herndon & Nafziger on August 1st of that year, later becoming a partner in Stevens, Herndon, Nafziger & Mohan.
On December 31, 1964 Mr. Mohan established his own practice in town under the name of "Mohan Law Offices" to concentrate on his growing business law practice. He added a partner in 1966, changing the name to Mohan & Bostian. After the addition of new attorneys to the practice and the loss of a partner due to illness, the name Mohan, Alewelt & Prillaman was adopted in 1975. At this time, Ed Alewelt and Fred Prillaman became partners with Mr. Mohan. Mr. Prillaman’s experience as an attorney for the newly formed Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for 2 years prior to forming the partnership with Mr. Mohan and Ed Alewelt led to the beginning and growth of the firm’s environmental law practice which continues to be strong to this day. In 1981 the firm adopted its present name of Mohan Alewelt, Prillaman & Adami after the addition of Paul Adami to the partnership. The firm continues to provide a full range of legal services to a variety of clients, and has continued to expand, with the addition of Cheryl S. Neal, Patrick D. Shaw, and Joel A. Benoit as partners in the practice. Ed Alewelt retired effective March 1, 2004.
